@alephlif, On the channel we hardly ever erase comments so I don't know what's happening to yours but it's not us. Are you asking for a session about the square as in the Triangle, the Circle, and the Square? Or are you asking about what Sensei calls "four square".

These are excellent “principles of engagement” -that unfortunately a lot of aikido teachers think - it is obviously implied, but you only get that once you actually study aikido, and so the superficial agenda people that have successfully WeaponIzed- atheism, nihilism, reductionism, And materialism, see this as superficial and useless,,, When really it’s when someone grabs you, You have two free hands, they only have one, And Where is the balance point And the opponent is probably going to use that as a “force multiplier”in order to hit you or throw you with the rest of their body. You need to rehearse and know that pattern… and you need to engage your upper body And theirs,,, Keeping you both safe, leaving the center and the legs for maneuvering. The sensei here is actually doing it and tracking and following and offering and taking away his center, And the opponents center Is “captured” ( the AiKi body ) the problem is, it is so condensed And done in such an elegant way, It is like a painting, like calligraphy, and unfortunately, ugly Americans are very mechanistic, And Cannot follow it… This man trained directly with the founder of aikido and is a legend… All martial artist need to study Aikido, at least once a week, take a seminar every few months, in order to Look for insights that they could have, but unfortunately most people are obsessed with the “candy coated shell”…

This is why when the doshu demonstrate for the Aikikai, its always the same thing. It's sad that watching the head of the society is more boring and lame than a lesser known sensei in a different country. Because they "know the technique". But they clearly dont know Aikido. Maybe people who actually are progressing the art should be doshu instead of people with the last name Ueshiba. Japanese traditionalism is really destructive to the art. It's become a cult.

Man he covers so much yet explains so little. He leaves us with these terms like finer and heavier, manifest and hidden, "squared away", "getting your math right"... But what is the math were supposed to get right? What do you really mean by finer? More refined like metal? Or like finer like more fidelity or like a magnifier? What is the square that we get squared away with? Half answered spiritual guidance is a recipe for madness

The major problem with Aikido is there is almost total cooperation in the attack/defence encounters. The person ‘attacking’ gives up after making the initial move and then participates in being thrown.

Well, you’ve only seen this is any standing position. Not a kneeling one. And definitely not a wheelchair one. This is of harmony and peacefulness. O sensei came history of war. He decided he didn’t like it. I decided I didn’t like it. Thus my journey. In Germany, with my sensei O sensei, and Shoto sensei I, learned a different way. As I became more disabled, I was kicked out of the military in baulmhlder, for a medical discharge. I broke contact out of embarrassment. But you did try to help me. Is a good man, it was my embarrassment. Aikido from a wheelchair is possible to go back to the basics. Anything is possible. Something maybe all things have to be taught to experience. Well, I have experience, I may not have wisdom. I can’t kill with a gun. I have proven that. I hate that about me. If there is anybody well just listen to the next person behind me is all I ask.

The title of this video initially made me a little wary of the message, but after actually watching it I am glad to find such a clear and accurate explanation of the true premise behind Aikido, unlike so many sources that either misrepresent the art as some kind of badass "too deadly for the UFC" thing, or disparage Aikido because "that wouldn't even work in a real fight." It's not supposed to "work in a real fight" as presented, but to teach you the patience and strength of character to avoid even needing to fight in the first place. If you want to learn how to defend yourself when someone is already trying to beat you up, just remember that Aikido is adapted from Jujutsu which shares practically all of the underlying principles but simply applies them in a more violent manner.

This is really helpful for clarifying some of the aspects of the 'alchemy' of this process. I was very confused for a while about the difference between self/character/i, it seemed like it was all synonyms, especially with the way most people talk about and think about themselves day to day. Arigatou Gozaimasu, Nadeau Sama --- "True, with no room for doubt, certain, worthy of all trust. See, the highest comes from the lowest, and the lowest from the highest; indeed a marvelous work of the Tao. See how all things originated from It by a single process. The father of it (the elixir) is the sun (Yang), its mother the moon (Yin). The wind bore it in its belly, and the Earth nourished it. This is the father of wondrous works, changes, and transformations; the guardian of mysteries, perfect in its powers, the animator of lights. This fire will be poured upon the earth, so separate the earth from the fire, the gross from the subtle, acting prudently and with art. It ascends from the Earth to the heavens, orders the lights above, then descends again to the earth; and within it the power of the highest and the lowest. Thus when you have the light of lights, darkness will flee away from you. With this power of powers, you shall be able to get the mastery of every subtle thing, and be able to penetrate everything that is gross. In this way was the great world itself formed, and hence thus marvelous operations will be achieved."

Thought in judo grip breaks did it perfectly to what was shown, and got slaughtered then It dawned I did it perfectly but not the right effort/speed

Aikido is useless in a self defense situation. Great for understanding body mechanics though.
